Sara's Headband Holder

FINALLY!  Tried this project and definitely need to try some more!  Figuring out what to use as a base was the first part of the challenge ~ and then being able to cut a straight line definitely caused me stress .. easy to cut?  Nope, not for me .. if the ruler is crooked so is my cut!  ;o))))

Although very late in getting this done ~ here is what I ended up with ..

A mixture of items .. base has to remain a 'secret' but a hint would be "You probably already have this or something similar in your kitchen" .. wall pops vinyl borrowed from my Cricut stash .. ribbon, and a flower as a topper .. then off it goes to my dear little munchkin Madelyn .. the keeper of the headbands.

heathers headband holder

I have lots of headbands for my daughter Madelyn. I had them all stuffed in a basket with many other things. I needed something just for the headbands so they wouldn't get tore up. So I decided to make my own headband holder. Took me a bit to figure out what I was doing.. as I am not into doing crafts nor do I know what I am doing. But I did my best.. and this is what I got!

Challenge: Headband Holder for Baby / Little Girl

Well here we go!  This should be a fun one ~ let's make headband holders for little ones to keep track of their crocheted and/or band type headbands!  Basically very little expense involved .. get creative and I'd betcha there is something around the house you can use!  ;o)

I'm thinking pink .. or do I want mixed colors .. or do I want um um um .. where's my scrapbook paper .. do I have any of those little glitter dot things .. oh .. what can the Cricut make for me .. can I call it a headband holder and use it for other things .. yep, oh boy!!

If you do a search on Etsy, Zibbet, Ebay or just Google "headband holder" there should be lots of different ideas out there ~ and many creative ones that are even multipurpose!

Any color, any theme ~ obviously girlie unless there is something you can think of that would be equally useful in boy colors/themes.  You know, like maybe to keep baby frogs on the dresser or something .. ?

So, very few rules here ~

Finished holder shouldn't be more than 10-12 inches tall
Diameter is based on which type bands the holder will support
Deadline:  October 7
Picture and 'story' must be emailed to rockstarmlove@aol.com prior to deadline

Once again - this is for fun or we can trade if we have enough people playing to trade with ~ get movin!!

Finally ~ almost got busted on the deadline for this one ~ it's so pretty outside today and I putzed til it got late .. oops!  Another cute one .. but also another one that I need to practice .. didn't realize all the pieces come apart and that would have made it a WHOLE LOT easier ~

Here ya go!

Korker Barrette - Gotta Practice this one!

Korkers .. are well .. umm 'corkers' .. and fun! This is the second one for my learning this week and it was fun although not so sure I've got it right. Rainy, icky day here in O'Fallon IL so why not bake ribbons .. LOL! Dowels, check. Grosgrain ribbon, check. Clothespins .. problem .. only have plastic ones so what'll I do .. hmmm .. tape will get all icky in the oven .. rubber bands will probably melt .. ok . here we go .. let's try to staple ribbon to the dowel .. yeah, put a round stick with ribbon in a normal stapler and try to get it to work .. yeehah .. it's gonna work!

Some directions say make ribbon wet after rolling on dowel rod .. some say put starch .. some say 200 degrees . some 250 .. so here's the upshot .. 250 x 20 minutes and voila .. I have curled ribbon!

Getting it on the barrette was the challenge .. plus adding beads .. first time around .. don't laugh ;o)))))

Mini Layered Clippie - Hair Clip for Baby

Tiny people sure need tiny things!  I'm used to boys so this was quite different to create!  What did I learn this time around .. hmm .. well for one thing tiny alligator clips are curved and hard to get a straight appearance to the bow .. so I opted for what seemed to be an easy one to try ..

So, started out lining the clip .. not too bad if glue all over me and the counter are part of the process .. easy!  Then the next layer .. the easiest of all .. make a circle and find the center of it .. THEN try to get it positioned on the clip.  Ok .. got it .. but the rules say button or bead and this is so so so tiny!  Found a button .. got it on there then had to manipulate it to get it kinda sorta ok ..

One down .. two more to go ..

CHALLENGE! Let's make Clippies!

This week's challenge is to get ideas moving in the direction of fall, cooler weather, and Halloween!  So, we aren't going to do earrings this time around ~ we're going to learn and make some alligator clips for little girls!  The twist to this challenge .. well, why just go with one twist .. there are more rules to follow ~

Three different clippies -  must be handmade and not floral (can be bows or corkers just not flowers)
Must be fall colors
Must have beads or buttons as part of the theme

AND - these will be traded (in the mail) at the end of the week.

Must be suitable for infant to 2 year old

Lots of ideas are out there on youtube, ebay, etsy etc ..

Finished clippies gotta be posted by Sat, Sep 4 .. open to anyone beginner to expert .. these challenges are just for fun and to see what gets created - as we learn.

Anyone wanting to play with us - email rockstarmlove@aim.com .. yeehah!

Ready, Set, GO

Peace...Recycle...

I thought these would be cute! Each side has 12 disky beads...

21 Beads and One To Grow On

This challenge was hard!  21 Beads minimum .. so 21 beads it is .. but then in the old spanking days, there had to be one extra one .. to grow on!  So 22 beads it is!  What did I learn this time around?  Well, for one .. Swarovski beads break apart easily .. drat it all .. soldering is 'hot' .. and wrapping a bead 'briolette' style ain't so easy!  But sure was fun .. bring on the next one ~ ;o))))

Challenge #2 Earrings (Melissa)

For the second Challenge, I was going to do CandyLand...but August 20th was what should have been my best friend's 22nd birthday. She passed away in 2006. We used to paint each other's nails ALL THE TIME..I don't think my nails were ever plain during our whole friendship. So I made a pair of earrings and used our favorite colors to color them :)

Challenge #3 ~Happy 21st Bead Day!~ (8/23-8/28)

Today is my 21st birthday :)!!!! So since I am 21 now, the challenge is to make a pair of earrings using no less than 21 beads. You can use any theme, color, bead, whatever....BUT you have to use 21 beads.

The deadline is Saturday August 28th.

Happy Beading!

Yahtzee! What a fun family game ~

YAHTZEE!!!

Oh this was such a fun game on winter nights sitting around the dining room table . . . after supper .. family and friends .. and we learned it before the 'real' game came out with score pads and fancy dice.  Lots of memories in this challenge .. maybe this is one of more sets of earrings .. what next?  ;o)

Challenge #2: Looking back

It's that time again! Challenge time! This challenge begins today (August 17th, 2010) and ends August 21st, 2010.  I got this idea while driving in my car yesterday afternoon. I was listening to Miranda Lambert's song "House that Built Me", when Sara (http://essexcottagecapers.blogspot.com/) sent me an IM to my phone asking about this weeks Challenge. Then it came to me!

This challenge will have each of us (yes us. I didn't realize that I was to be apart of these challenges, I thought I just created the posts LOL..I was wrong!) looking back on our childhoods. Think of a favorite game, place, memory...anything, from your childhood and turn it into earrings. Since, this challenge can stir up many ideas, stories, and fun times; the minimum requirment is going to be ONE pair. You are more than welcome to make more, but that is up to you.

Have fun and happy beading!!!

My Montage 8/14/10 at OneTrueMedia.com

And here is ENVY .. music called Weekend in New England - where it's cool and quiet ..

GREED - Affects us all in one way or another . . harrumph!

Okie Dokie .. hmmmmmm .. GREED .. I can definitely see how this could lead to being deadly . and we sure do see an excess of this particular SIN on a daily basis .. jeepers creepers .. just turn on TV and watch one of the news channels .. money seems to drive so many issues .. personal, professional, political .. or wait a minute .. is it a LACK of money that causes us to be greedy?

I sure don't know the answer but this was a fun pair too .. had to learn a new trick ;o)  Once again, found the dollar sign beads at Three Sisters Crafts .. BUT they were in silver .. and I wanted green for money (gee, imagine that huh?)  so after thinking about this one .. had to go and ask about paint for metal .. and here is where I turned green myself - my fingers that is!  There is such an animal as metal paint .. and it worked great!  Used Diamond Glaze to give them a little dimension and shine .. then of course had to tap tap tap in impatience waiting for them to dry.  It's really a good thing impatience isn't on the sin list .. I'd be in huge trouble.

I think I might have to do ENVY .. as in I sure do envy people that manage to take great pictures of beads and capture the sparkle.  Oh well .. if I learn to be greedy I can lust after money and by the time I actually get a super dooper camera .. well .. I might be in trouble cause all the sins along the way would be deadly.  Boy, this stuff really does make ya think!!  These are actually a very pretty green with tiny swarovski crystals to sparkle in the light.

Glutton - And it ain't about Ice Cream!!

The first pair of a very difficult challenge!  These earrings are intended to represent "Glutton" .. and yes, I did my research on this one .. commonly a PIG is associated with this sin, and the color ORANGE .. but I think my pig is only partly a sinner so she gets to have some pink and neon pink with her orange to remind her that if she doesn't quit this sin she will become increasingly orange .. and who ever heard of an orange pig?

The poor pigs (commercial here .. is a pig a boy and a sow a girl?) came from a super store in O'Fallon IL

and so did the colored disks.  Had to get out my dremel and figure out how to make it work with the teensiest drill bit in creation .. harrumph .. thank goodness for online manuals and the ability to access them for directions that I managed to lose!  Not knowing what the contents of these pigs tummies consisted of .. I wasn't surprised to see some kind of 'stuff' coiling out of them .. so maybe now I qualify as a butcher .. but seriously, no damage to them and most definitely learned a few tricks doing this challenge ..

Now, on to the next SIN . . which one should I try . . ho hum!

First Challenge

Okay ladies~

Your first challenge is to make three pairs of earrings, that symoblize three of the 7 deadly sins.

-Wrath
-Greed
-Sloth
-Pride
-Lust
-Gluttony
-Envy

You can choose any of the three from the list. Today is Monday August 9th, 2010. The deadline for the three earrings is Saturday August 14th, 2010. You must provide a picture of each pair and a short explaination of why you chose that sin and how your earring represents that sin.

Happy Beeding :)

Hi!

Welcome to your blog :)

So this is pretty much just the start of the blog. I do need to fix the picture on the page, it lines up wierd. I can change and/or add anything that you two like (music, video..ect) that you might like to add as a widget. I have set the font and colors for the post text, so you don't have to worry about that. The blog will automaticlly do that for you. You can each (if you chose) add to the about me section, I am leaving that up to you and what you want. If you do find another background that you would prefer let me know and I can redo it.

I have sent you each an email with the info to log on and what not.

Can't wait to see you guys get this blog rolling :)

OH and DON'T forget to do a blog on your individual blogs informing your followers about this blog!!! If you know how or can figure out how, post the link on the sidebar of the blog, so they don't have to go looking through posts to find it. If you can't figure it out, I can help. DUH! ha

I love you guys :)
